Thank goodness for the Civilian Conservation Corps. Some of my favorite places in this country were built by those guys. I dig their aesthetic. And have a deep appreciation for the herculean task they accomplished in this place of cliffs and stone.
We walked the gorge trail up to the top. (up and up and up! Ivy was NOT a fan of all those stairs.)
So, to add variety to our lives we took the rim trail back, and I'm so glad we did. We discovered a lovely cemetery up on the top of the gorge, and this magical place rock stacking and a quiet trail shelter...
On our drive back up the lake we saw this beauty. Just right there beside the road because the Finger Lakes region is literally overflowing with pretty spots.
Like this view from the Finger Lakes Distillery, where we stopped to get some locally grown gin.
And root beer.
And this giant game of Jenga which kept the kids occupied for far longer than we expected.
Ice cream on the way home at this adorable little spot in Lodi.
Why not put an ice cream stand in the front yard of an old church? Which happens to be for sale.... tempting on a perfect day like this! I'd live here...
Made it back to the lake in time for a perfect evening.
Fishing with the Morehouse boys. We didn't catch anything but that's ok.
More dusk photos of Great Gully! Now with even less water!
And KanJam and beers with Lauren and Matt. I've always liked that Lauren. It's fun to be adults together now. She's a good one.
What a day! What a lake! What a life! Vacation rocks (and waterfalls....).
