The Ides of March

Today it was a balmy 74 degrees with breezy sun and there is hope for springtime on the horizon.  February and the start of March have felt long and grey indeed and so it is good to have hope.  Even if I am sick with a doozy of a head cold and couldn't really enjoy the weather today--even the knowledge that this weather can happen is good for the soul.

What have we been up to this past month?  Survival mode, mostly, with some over-scheduling thrown in and a fair amount of overtired/overstressed kids to spice things up. But even in the deep midwinter there are bright spots.  Pictured here, a few of those.

Ivy's Wax Museum presentation at Soul Food Cafe.  She was Faith Ringgold, the artist known for quilting the inspiration for Tar Beach.  Girlie had her cards memorized and presented with poise.  I was so proud of her.  And all her friends!  SO much adorableness in that grimy old gym.  We also had over 200 people in attendance, making this one of our largest PTA sponsored events in recent history.  A testament to Nat's leadership as PTA president this year, I have no doubt.

A birthday party for Cousin Ada. Another group of little sweeties, who took "favorite cousin" Ivy under their wing and included her beautifully.
A beautiful West Shore concert in this beautiful space.  Sublime resonance and a beautiful space for the Mozart Vespers, Conte's O Sun, and Chichester Psalms (which is still running through my head!)
Cold crisp nights just right for Nat to play with photography.
 Our dynamic city.
Spending lots of time on my Norwex business.  My first vendor show and a live training event where I got meet one of online teammates in real life.  Having fun with this little gig so far.
Winter's first dog show!  Our tiny girl pranced her way to a three point major on one of the days of the "Barkaritaville" show in Tallmadge.  Plus she's still rocking the professional grooming job Cindy gave her.

 More cold weather.
And the very exciting event of Reaching Musical Heights, a quadrennial event where all of our CH-UH music students are featured on stage at Severance Hall.  Magical and heartwarming and some pretty darn good music.
And this guy, looking tall and confident on the big stage.  He pronounced the sound in the hall to be "Good" and the chairs to be "A lot better than the ones we have at school."

A way with words, that one. ;)

The gospel choir brought down the house.
But these elementary schoolers dancing in unison really stole the show.

So proud of this diverse, beautiful community we live in, where our children have opportunities like this one, and students are nurtured into their fullest potential and talent.

A big change in our house when Gram and Pip moved back home, following a good report from her orthopedic doctor (on her birthday no less).  She's doing a great job adjusting back to independent life and I think is happy to be back in her routine.  We are going through some spaniel withdrawl, though.

We celebrated my mom's birthday in style at a fun concert by Rambling House at Bop Stop.  Irish dancing, dueling fiddles, and superb singing by my friend Amanda Powell.  I should do things like this more often.
