Celebration

I am writing to you from the Point, one more section of our subdivided summer having come to an end and another begun.  It is, as always, lovely here. Our noses are red from a full-sun lake day yesterday, and right now I am keeping company with six children who are happily beading and playing in our rainy-day cottage, while Nat makes a run to Roses' Bakery.

But for today I will take a look back at last week, which was pretty lovely itself.

Wednesday:  A trip to Wade Oval. We showed off every inch of our Gardens (Leigh was kind enough to be enthusiastic and complimentary about it all), then stayed and joined the city-wide picnicking at Wade Oval Wednesday.

The giant Lego sculptures throughout the garden were pretty cool.
Enjoying the air-conditioning..

Picnic time!!

Thursday:  I had to work, but apparently the troops had a grand time at Lakeview Cemetery. I will post the awesome movie trailer Nat made, once we have reliable wifi to load video.

After an exceedingly cold trip to Bexley pool and playground, we brought Greg home with us for an overnight.

They were having more fun than it looks like in these pictures.

The best part of having Greg sleep over?  When the kids woke up early but stayed up in Jack's room for a good hour, playing away, before making their appearance downstairs.  Greg can come and entertain our children any time.

Friday:  Happy Fourth!  What a remarkably full and wonderful day.  This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Somerton block party, and every moment of the day was scheduled with a plethora of events. We participated in as much as we could while also hosting a big family lunch and caring for three very overstimulated children.  We were blessed with cool temperatures this year which is probably the only reason why we were still standing at the end of the day.

My festive blue Holiday Cupcakes.
Everyone was very complimentary despite the fact that the stripes look a lot like bloody gashes.

In one hour we made an obscene quantity of food and served 8 adults and 5 children happily around tables in the backyard.  We're like a party machine, baby.

We also set off smoke bombs and poppers.

Parade time!  Jack and Ivy and Greg rode independently in the parade this year, taking off right behind the lead flags like they'd been doing it their whole lives.  I walked alongside to supervise and offer roadside support, which was completely unnecessary. Next year, lawnchairs...

Rocket Car!!!
Ivy won this fan in the kids games and was SO in love with it.  She said it made her "fancy" and made me pretend she was someone I'd never met.

On our way back to Somerton for sparklers.   Happy little family!  :)  It was fun having a full house.

More smoke bombs.  It was a good day.
Saturday was a blur of packing and cleaning with a trip to the playground and lunch in Little Italy thrown in for good measure.  We took lots of pictures of our guests and our children, too, but they're on my computer at home so you're going to have to wait.

Now, back to enjoying the lake.  Further updates to come.
