Wild West

It's hard to believe that our Wyoming trip has come and gone so soon!  We're safely back and slowly acclimating to Ohio time again.  I am not sad to say goodbye to March, just surprised that it is April already!
But-- with no further ado-- here are memories of this year's trip:

First off, two stories from the "funny things those kids say" collection.

Ivy:  While climbing up the chimney side of the castle, trying to reach the roof where her brother was, the toe of her shoe got a little bit stuck.  She paused, clinging to the stones, one leg up on a latch:  "Mom.  I'm not scared.  I'm really not scared.   I'm just a little surprised that my foot won't come up here."    A little un-sticking of her toe and up she went.  I wouldn't let her climb above where I could reach.  Not this year anyways...

Jack:  Our second night there, the boy, in his ever-increasing independence, decided he would brush his teeth and use the potty in the hallway bathroom rather than the one adjoining our room.  Fine with me!  I let him go off and do his thing while I got Ivy ready. The next night, I popped in to check on him just as he finished brushing his teeth.  You should know that neither child liked the taste of the travel toothpaste the first night, and so had been given permission to brush thoroughly with water alone.  So, it was surprising when Jack said to me, "Mom, is this really toothpaste???"  I looked where he was pointing to find that he had just brushed his teeth with Grandpa's Fixodent.  I had him scrub his teeth again.  And rinse thoroughly.  I noted to him, as cleaned out his toothbrush, that the Fixodent probably wouldn't hurt him since it is supposed to go in mouths.  And he said, "Yeah, I know.  I brushed with it last night too."   I felt a little bad for how much I laughed.

OK, on with the pictorial recounting of the trip:

Ready to roll!  After a fun day playing "mommy", taking Ivy to school and ballet, we picked up Jack from school and headed to CIA.

The trip involved:  making new friends in the airport, watching TV on a plane, shuttling two tired small people, three rolley bags, three backpacks and one booster seat from a plane to a rental car, then driving north through the dark night of Wyoming.   My kids? they are awesome travelers.  Troupers.

We got safely in to Guernsey around 12:30 Wyoming time and snuggled in.

Day 2:  Pleasant weather, golfing with Grandpa,  a visit to Vovo's school, a little bit of local color...

Our traditional trip to the Wheatland Country store....

Warming up for golf!

Teaching Grampa how to play Magic.

She was writing a letter to Grandpa....

...and giggling at his singing.

What weather!  Is it still March, really??

Yep, that's Jack driving the golf cart!

And Ivy too, of course!

Climbing at the Guernsey school playground.
Off to the Trail Ruts!
We headed up to explore the Oregon Trail Ruts.  A little bit of history, a lot of climbing, many many little ground cacti.  Good times.

Day 3:  An afternoon picnic at the Castle, always a favorite spot:

The excitement of Easter baskets!
Day 3:  Lots of time trying to fly our Easter kites!!  Lots.  Of. Time.  :)

And snuggles with Vovo.  And interviews with Grandpa.  Together time in Guernsey.

She's a pretty thing...

...and she loves her grandpa!
Day 4:  Windy playground time, art in the afternoon, fun trip to Fort Laramie, more kite flying, a nice run along the river.  Always a little sadness at the end of a trip to Guernsey.  One gets to like the peace of this little spot...

Crazy little bit of afternoon snow. It was sunny out moments before!

The kids loved the ruins!  Except for Ivy getting bitten by a red ant. And losing her souvenir fan. But other than that, a perfectly fine afternoon.

Learning how to sand with Grandpa.
Heading out on Saturday morning...

A fun stop in Cheyanne on the way to Denver.  Between the great playground with an old school teeter-totter and the great children's garden, we were there for an hour.

Fun times at Leigh's house. Little Wyatt loved Ivy and all of us had a grand stay!

Our last day in the west.  A wonderful wonderful day at a great park in Denver.  It's always perfect in Denver, I am sure of it.

We all love Porter!  Awesome little dog, this one!

The reason for our trip, right here.  Love.
