The lake so far

It's 10:38 on a Saturday morning and the lake is grey and calm, the skies clouded and the breeze cool.  Birds are alight with song and boats are being raised in their hoists in preparation for the scattered thunderstorms predicted today. On the porch with me, Jack, Sarah and Hannah play quietly together, an epic battle with ninjas and snakes unfolding thanks to Sarah's unending creativity.  Ivy's on a playdate with the two year old daughter of Nat's childhood lake-friend next door. I've been for a run and had a shower, and cleaned the cottage while Nat took the kids to Rose's bakery.  I smell of skin-so-soft and Murphy's oil soap and lake water.  It's delicious here.

Our first evening brought an onslaught of family-- the point is full with all the cousins and neighbors in attendance-- with littles running and playing and dogs greeting one another and swimsuits everywhere. It is wonderful and enchanting and bit much right out of the car. We escaped to the relative calm of Jamie and Casey's rented cottage for a gourmet meal and time to acclimate to the lake.

Yesterday was brilliant and sunny and just the right amount of hot and we fit in a lot of swimming, a lot of playing, and a lot of sitting around in various locations near the water.  A Farley's day.

This little girl is doing a great job using the potty, as long as she's not wearing anything on her bottom half.  This ends up giving us the opportunity for lots of naked-baby cuteness around here.  The best moment was when nakey-girl put on the green Brasil whistle and climbed into the cozy coupe, proudly stating, "I goin' to work.  And my whistle!"  Of course, little one....

This little boy can paddle a kayak on his own, quite proficiently, thanks to some patient instruction from Sarah.  We discovered this as he suddenly began to paddle out into the lake, passing his boundary of the boat hoist, and then finding himself unable to turn around.  Sarah went out, unasked, and towed him in.  It was priceless.
