Farley's: On Point

Dear Farley's Point,

How can I put into words the way you make me feel?  You, with your storybook charm and peaceful soutch cove waters.  With the raft and the park and the happy free-range children.  With the boats and canoes and kayaks at the ready. With the family of bald eagles and now this year, swans, too. You have been honing your magic and it shows.

Then there is the way the light shines on the water in each cove differently through the day, the glitter and silver shine of late afternoon, the soft gold of morning, just-past-sunset pale pastel.  And the way the children roam along the little gravel road in groups, running from cottage to cottage and then to the park and then to the paddleboards and then to the raft.  The treasure that is their laughter and freedom.

Which is better, the alone-time moments of lake-and-coffee and solo kayaking in the morning, or cocktail hour with all of the friends and neighbors later in the day?  Or is your magic truly in the way you make days expand enough to hold both and all and more?  The way this tiny tiny cottage can expand to hold all of the tweens on the point to play Set, and a full  buffet dinner for the family, and still somehow only take a half hour to clean.  There's some sort of witchcraft in this place- and it is wonderful.

I have been soaking up your deliciousness -- and the endless sunshine-- for 14 days straight and I am grateful for every minute with you ... but no matter how long we are together it will never be long enough.

Special moments from this year:  time with Jamie and Casey, every-morning run and dog walk and paddle to Eagle Cove, having the raft back, sunny day after sunny day, walking the Gully and Cascadilla and Taughannock, watching the kids waterski, time to read and relax in the sun alone, time to chat with lovely family and friends, time to be and talk with and enjoy our group of kiddos.  Time without responsibilities or work or a care in the world.

Thanks for the beauty, Farley's.  I'll be holding you in my heart til we meet again.
