School's Out for Summer!

Another school year in the books for these two!
Ivy, last day of third grade, 9 years old.

Jack, last day of 6th grade, 11.75 years old...

Having a middle schooler is strange because they just come home on the bus after school and you don't get pictures of them with their teachers any more...
But we have a few more years to enjoy this with Ivy!

Here's Mrs. Bellini, her reading enrichment teacher (also Jack's fourth grade teacher!)

And Mrs. Petersen, her classroom teacher (who incidentally was in my graduating class at Lakewood High!)
And Mrs. Baldoff, an interventionist who had Ivy as her peer helper for incentive parties and reward lunches and general awesomeness all year.
So grateful for these amazing professionals who showered love on my girl all year and made it a great one for her.  She still loves school with a passion, despite the continuing difficulties with behavior among her classmates.  She is learning empathy and patience and the meaning of fairness along with math and reading...

The best part of being at our neighborhood school:
walking home with friends...
...and running into friends down the street...
Even though my break didn't technically start til the 7th, we treated the first weekend of June like summertime...

Coffee and reading and snuggling on a sunny porch...
... opening day at Cumberland -- time for the deep water test!  (When your swim team coach is running the test she doesn't even have to watch you swim... :)  )

More soccer!!
 ...and sunset at Edgewater.

Then, off to DC for this mama!  My "sort of" vacation.  Sure, I'm with 250 eighth graders, and on a bus a LOT, but there's plenty to enjoy about the DC trip.

My favorite view at Gettysburg...
 ...Arlington...
Inspiring monuments, and the most amazing weather ever...

...a tiny trip to the Botanic Gardens (worth the 20 minutes of fast walking for 15 minutes of greenhouse perfection!)

Got to visit the African American History and Culture museum and it was amazing and intense.
Then, home to pack my classroom and enjoy the beauty we have right here in Cleveland.

This time-- Euclid Beach for sunset.

Blessings abound.  Happy summer vacation, everyone!!
