A Flower Party for a 9 year old

This girl is 9 years old.

(how is that even possible??)

We celebrated with her friends the weekend before her birthday this year.  The weather, in a departure from tradition, did not cooperate with us and so her Flower Party was indoors.  This was ok, though, because a. we don't tend to have 40-50 guests at birthday parties any more, now that parents can just drop off the invited guests and b. we got use ALLLL the flower decorations in a much smaller space so it was festive as all get out.

Some "before" photos of the decor:

A 5:00 party start time equals a long day for a very excited young lady.  She tucked herself in for a "nap" while she waited...
Then, all of a sudden, we had a grand total of 11 girls ranging in age from 7 to 10 and oh there was SO much giggling and squealing and chattering in our house for the next three hours!   And crafting.  Lots and lots of crafting.

Modge Podge and tissue paper everywhere!

Also, an outdoor nail studio in the freezing weather.  The price we pay for beauty.

 Time to eat!

Oh how I love this girl.

While not planned as a part of our flower-themed party, the chicks were a main focus of activity.  For a while I think we had 8 girls clustered in this tiny room, clambering over one another to hold a fluff-ball.

Pinata time!
I have NO idea what is happening in this line.

 Ivy, overseeing the feeding frenzy...

We were so glad to have Gram join us for the party!
 Cookie decorating!

 And more nails...

 Time for cake!

I love how this little girl really honors the process of gift giving and receiving.  Always opening the card first, with love and compliments to the giver...

Cousin Ada didn't know too many of Ivy's friends at the beginning of the party, but she fit right in and the whole little crew were besties by the end.

A little more chick love before some of our guests headed home...
... and the overnighters headed up to the guest room, which we set up for movie-watching and snuggling.  Four of the five little girls slept sideways in the bed just like this.  Can you guess which one of the girls slept on her own?  Our little Ivy, who took herself to bed before the rest, in her own room. My girl values her sleep, and her personal space.

Good morning, sunshines!
So one of our little guests brought a face mask gel with her.  Which was applied repeatedly between 9pm and 8am.  Here are the girls, lovingly peeling face-mask off of one another's faces.  Too funny.

We took Ada with us to church and it was a perfect day to enjoy the playground in the sunshine.

... and then off to another playground with the girls to head Ada back towards home...
These girls are SERIOUS about apples on the Solstice Steps.
... and then off to Ashland to pick up our little show dog.  We had to make a pit stop at Grandpa's Cheese Barn before heading home.
 Selfies with spaniels!

 Say Cheese!

What a weekend with my little almost-9-year-old!  So much joy, so little sleep.
