Last Days at the Lake

What a beautiful and calm trip we had to Farley's this year.  The weather was delightful and the cousins were plentiful and the living was easy.  Sigh.  Just like every year, I wonder why we can't live like this all the time...

We fit a lot into our last 3 days in New York.

Lots of crafting, for starters.  Painting  our gully rocks, beading, more beading...more beading after that.
We traveled to King Ferry for the excitement of the Wheat Festival and Parade, where our children joined local kids in the time- honored tradition of running into the street for candy.

The parade was a cute little thing, and the festival was even smaller.  Had some terrific Cornell chicken, though-- which the kids ate most of- and some face painting for Ivy, so it was all good.

Then, off to Buttermilk Falls!
We met our friend Laurie and her son for swimming and fishing (Ivy caught 6 perch!) and a LOT of jumping off this great, high diving board.
Nat and I also climbed about 67,000 steps to see Cowshed Falls and the upper falls, again leaving our kids in the care of lifeguards.  Older kids kind of rock.

A sunset boat ride at the close of a great Saturday...
 Dock dog.
Little fisher-girl.  She is so confident after her morning fishing with Uncle Randy and her afternoon fishing with Laurie....

Sunday, Nat and I had a little date day in Geneva while Ivy and Jack enjoyed time at their cousin's house, enjoying their new pool.

We visited and toured Rose Hill Mansion, a pretty Greek Revival from the 1830's...  New York historic houses are really historic!  Apparently one of the owners was known for his use of the new technology of drainage tiles in farming, so there's that.

Visited a Brewery and a winery on the way home because we could.

Then home in time for  Family Dinner (smaller with Randy's family out of town), and more crafting of course.

And sunset with ducklings, because its idyllic here...
And a boat ride on a glassy lake, because its really, really idyllic here...
Monday:  Hanging out with neighbors...
... one last day at swim lessons....
... then another date day for Nat and I!  Two in a row!  Wow.  This time, a day in Ithaca.  Resale shopping, visiting one of our favorite lakefront parks, wandering the commons and a wonderful Thai dinner.  Yes.

Home again.  In time for more crafting.  :)

Tuesday-  Our last full day at the lake.  We ignored the dreary grey sky and had ourselves a fantastic boat ride to Aurora and Long Point. It's pretty amazing to have a schnazzy new motor, making the family heirloom into a reliable form of transportation for the first time in a few years.

Still the prettiest boat on the lake.

Back at the point- swimming to the raft...
... and a s'mores party in honor of Reese and Drew's last day at the point.  An indoor s'mores party because we don't let midday storms stand in the way of s'mores parties around here.

Sweet summer friends.
 Farley's Point kids.
 I totally love this picture.
 After the storm cleared...
One last sunset boat ride, this time with friends and braiding leather...

I sure love this guy.  He's in his happy place for sure in this picture.
Wednesday morning-- packing, cleaning and posing for lion chair pictures.  These two aren't going to fit side-by-side for much longer!

I love the cottage when it is clean and shiny and clutter-free...  the way it looks when we're all packed and ready to leave, of course, because we can't maintain this for two weeks.  But it is sure a nice view to keep in my memory all year.

I'll close with a random assortment of photos from Nat's camera, from throughout the trip.  He takes pretty pictures. Many of these shots really come pretty close to capturing the sublime beauty and relaxation of time at the lake...hopefully they'll tide me over until next time.
