Championships

It's a little strange to write a blog post about an event that I wasn't there for-- but I thought I'd best record Jack's first swim championship experience here on the blog.  He and Nat took a three day "vacation in Cleveland" to attend the meet, which was two full days of mass chaos from the sound of it.

Our little swimmer did well for himself, seeded in the top 8 for all three of his individual events, in a meet with over a thousand swimmers.  Nat reports that he dealt with nerves, pride, and disappointment like a champion, too, which is what makes me the most proud.

This tall kid. He has come so far. As a swimmer, sure-- and as a person.

Some of his stats:

50 Freestyle- dropped 4 seconds off his time and moved from 8th to a 5th place finish. Time: 37.76
50 Breast-- maintained his time and finished in his seeded 3rd place  ( a medal!!! Hooray!  The drive was worth it!) Time: 48.35
100 IM-- dropped 8 seconds (!) from his time moving from 7th to 4th.  Time: 1:39
He helped his relay teams come in 5th in the Medley Relay and 2nd in their (2nd tier) heat in the 200 Free relay.

Competition is good for this kid.

So, a successful end to our first summer of swim team.  Hope he can keep up the momentum.  It's really fun to watch your kid push themselves, and excel.  I could get used to this...
