The Lake So Far

We'e been met here at the Point by a string of picture-perfect days, the full complement of friends and family, and a national holiday, so things are off to a nice start this year.

Also, the boat has this jazzy new motor, which means its been like having a brand new (65 year old) boat at our disposal.  One we can take out, successfully, at any time, without sitting sadly in it as the the old engine smokes and refuses to start.

So, life is good.

This old boat-dog is enjoying her stay, I think. We have to carry her up and down to the beach and lift her into the boat, but its worth it.   She spends most of her days sleeping in the cottage.  Silver lining:  this is the first summer we've been able to leave her in the cottage when we go out for a swim.  Makes life a little easier, I have to admit.  But I also miss hauling her up into the kayak and onto the raft as she refused to let us get too far from shore without her. ...  You just never do know when it will be the last time for something, right?

This little fish passed her "raft test" and has been in her glory swimming out with the "big girls" to play on the paddleboards and giggle tremendously...

This boy is a fish himself, confident and strong in the water and ready to take this lake by storm...
We celebrated Betsey and Peter's 50th wedding anniversary on the 2nd, in fine Farley's style.

We were all treated to a catered hors d'oeuvres party and cocktails and it was pretty fabulous.

Also prevalent at the lake so far: Campfires.  Several s'mores nights to be had, at the cottages of several friends.  Nat goes down nightly to enjoy a fire with high-school friends.

And, of course, fireworks.  A huge display on the 2nd in honor of Betsey and Peter, then another to mark Lindsay and Will's first anniversary.  On the night of the 4th itself, when he found the far-off displays a bit unsatisfying, Jack remarked with disappointment, "Why does everyone have to have an anniversary BEFORE the fourth of July??"  Turns out, he is a pretty big fan of exploding things, at close range.

We enjoyed having the company of Jamison and Casey until Wednesday. We took a lovely trip across the lake to Goosewatch winery on Tuesday..

Have I mentioned we are enjoying this "newly" useful boat?

 And of course, sunsets...

Not pictured:  plenty of time in the red Adirondack chairs, making small talk; kids running rampant at the park and disappearing for hours to one-another's cottages; reading in the shade; a magnificent solo kayak to Eagle Cove, complete with sightings of garpike, a heron, and no less than three eagles at close range; sunset swims with giggling and excited children...

Also not pictured: those same children, breaking down in sobs and pouts at regular intervals due to the sheer exhausting joy of all this vacationing.  Bedtimes consistently after 11 do not, apparently, agree with our kids...  Just keeping it real!

Next installment:  Fourth of July!
