Back to the Point (or, Waterfalls and a Wonderful Week)

Week one outcome:  nonstop (lovely) socialization.

Week two goal:  a whole lot of this.

We are settling into our routine at the point.  I take the kids to swim lessons in the morning (sometimes getting up early to run, sometimes lounging in bed til the last possible minute. More often the latter...)  Nat stays home to grade or work on this year's project:  "Fun with Water Heaters!!"

Then, in the afternoon, its time for a boat ride, or a kayak, or maybe a swim...

We've been frequenting "eagle cove" a lot, to see our resident family of bald eagles... two adults and two juveniles this year, with a few neighboring herons for ambiance...
Whenever possible, we take the boat our for sunset, too.  We are taking full advantage of this wonderful new working motor!
I love watching Nat coaching the kids on all things lake.  Jack is pretty much driving the boat independently these days...

Time with cousins (and hamsters!) doesn't hurt.  Randy and his family moved in to the yellow cottage this week and it is nice to have them around.  The triplets run with the pre-teen Farley's "pack" this summer so we see a lot less of them-- but enjoy the time we do get, immensely.  What wonderful kids.
When not doing the aforementioned activities, we have been traveling around the region to see new and memorable sights.

Because we are in the Finger Lakes, most of these are waterfalls.

("Waterfall Wednesday" lives on!!)
Ludlowville falls
A wonderful little walk up to Ithaca Falls.  I feel like this is a well-kept secret, these magnificent falls and a nice little walking path, hidden in plain sight off a residential back street.

But we always come back to the Point, to soak up some more of this....
... and this...
We so enjoyed having our friend Sarah and her family staying just down the point for our first week...
Then, back to swim lessons in the morning!

This year Kelly has been assisted by these two 20 year old twins who are just the cutest.  Super nice guys, who seem to genuinely enjoy being with children.  And the kids can tell-- they flock around the guard chair like little groupies after swimming...
We've even had time for some cottage quiet time, from time to time.  Barb calls it "feet off the floor time" and Ivy loves this idea.
I packed far more crafts than we've gotten around to doing, but we did have a successful rock painting party one afternoon...
Another highlight:  an overnight visit from our friends!

We headed east with them when they set off for Ohio, sticking together as far as Montezuma Marsh...

Then, our group carried on to Victor, where we spent a most enjoyable afternoon at the Ganondaga Historic Site, learning about the Seneca and Iriquois tribes, their longhouses and cultures.

But always-- back to the Point.

Ivy's version of heaven:  hanging out with the big kids.

Jack is learning to steer the canoe...
On Sunday we spent the morning at a Lavender Festival on Skaneateles Lake.  It was the cutest.

Sadly our children flagged quickly from being forced to idyllically pick lavender in the warm sunshine;  I could have stayed there all day.
Just as well-- we had this to get back to.

Yes, this is a photo of our children poking at a dead fish.  Anything to get them to bond and spend quality time together...
Monday's off-point adventure:  you guessed it!  A waterfall.
This time, we stayed local-- one mile down the road to Great Gully.  And, we took the whole point with us!  All the Morehouse and Koon cousins plus Barb and her grandkids.  Quite the festival atmosphere.
Communal dam building was a popular activity...
Along with swimming in a waterfall.

Then, we hiked up the gully together...

 ...to the Upper Falls.
Even more magical, if that's possible.
On the way home we were chased by horseflies and had to all but carry our littlest ones out. Just so you know it's not ALWAYS perfect around here.

Just most of the time. ;)
