April Showers (and projects and flowers and friends...)

And snap, just like that, April is over.  We celebrated Easter and then it was, somehow, May.   This year seems to be accelerating as we go.  Both my school and Ivy's school are doing "count down the alphabet" calendars to mark the days til the end of the year.  Which means there were only 26 days of school left... 5 school days ago.  It defies comprehension, the way time flies.

Here's a recap of the second half of April...

Much of our free time this month has been spent demolishing and then replacing and then painting a wall of our garage, as well as reconfiguring the coop a bit and, more recently, moving, stacking and placing about 100 pavers that we acquired from the old rose garden at the church.  One of these days you aren't even going to recognize our yard.  Never fear, though.  For the moment it remains casually strewn with sticks, flagstones, and tools, just like we're used to.

Recruited some help on the projects.  Eileen and kids came over to hang out and we put them to work clearing up downed branches (thanks, mid-April snow storm!) and painting the garage.  It's amazing what my kids will be willing to do when there are other kids around who show some willingness too...

Here's Nat and Will making short work of the new siding while Melinda and I relaxed on the pergola...

Photos of the finished project coming ... sometime.  It's not a new garage but it sure is better than it was!

Nat went to NY for a couple of days to attend his Aunt Jennifer's funeral- and to see his mom for the first time since Thanksgiving. We held down the fort and enjoyed some pleasant spring weather with dinner and ice cream al fresco, christening our new propane fire-table.

A trip to Worden's ledges on Sunday to keep enjoying the warmth...

Cocktails with chickens! The last week of April was full of delicious evenings that were too lovely to stay indoors, or do work of any kind...

Youth group hike at North Chagrin.  Lovely to see our church friends in person for the first time in a very long time...

Dragged these big kids to the Gardens to see the tulips, finally.  So many wonderful memories at this place, all those hours spent playing in the children's garden and exploring the glasshouses in wonder.  Look at them now!  They used to run under that arch...

After a slow start, with a sore wrist and bad weather keeping him off the courts for over a week, Jack is finally starting to warm up to tennis. This match was a pleasure to watch.  The teams were of equal ability and the game was close, and my tall boy even smiled a few times.  Plus I got to stand in the parking lot talking with other parents, which felt great.

A lovely night at Whiskey Island-- Nat and I went to see the Pink Moon rise over the city, and got this sunset as a bonus.
