Farley's Fourth

While we'd had every intention of being home for the Fourth this year, timing worked out differently and we found ourselves at Farley's for the holiday again this year.
Not such a bad thing, really.
It was a quick trip, as we are still planning our long stay in late July this year.   We left right after swim practice on the 3rd, and had an easy drive, complete with a stop for new sunglasses for the family.  Nothing says "vacation" like new sunglasses!  These two were so cute, checking out their reflections in one another's lenses, and complimenting each other, and themselves, profusely.

Nice to be here.
Here is Jack, one of the "big kids" at the park with his cousins...
Melty beads were the official activity for our group of little girls, who fell in together again, instantly.
 First night sunset...
Up and at 'em on the 4th-- busy preparations underway for our annual holiday lemonade stand.  I mean, this is the second year so its totally tradition now, right?

 Time to get festive!

Winter thought the Fourth of July would be more fun...

 Parade time!

We gathered in the circle for the annual singing of "God Bless America" and hotdogs and chips. Meanwhile the kids set to work...

South Cove paraders came through, with candy!  And joined us for hot dogs.  It was adorable.

Apres - parade swim... and its aftermath.   Holidays are hard.
Cocktail hour.  Time to talk and dip things in things.
And hold dogs.  The little girls are multiplying...
Dinner is served!  Look at the size of these kids...
 Sunset on day 2
 Bottle rockets off the dock...

And sparklers in the yard....

Time for the big fireworks off the raft!  The kids all had glow necklaces thanks to Stephanie, and it was fun to watch them all approach, en masse, glowing...

We had quite the crew gathered on the yellow cottage dock.

 And quite the show....
Clear skies for two days meant that mother nature gave her own show later... The stars are magnificent here.

Love this long-exposure shot Nat got-- star trails over 20 minutes.

July 5th highlights:  LOTS of time watching dogs do this:

.. and sitting as still as possible in the crazy heat.  And swimming and canoeing and kayaking.  I think we were in the water at least 4 times?    You'll have to wait for us to get around to downloading the underwater camera photos for that part of the day...

For dinner we went out with Jamie and Casey for pizza and a pitcher at the Nines, followed by a visit to Cascadilla Falls.  I never get tired of this spot.

Last day:  We lingered as long as possible on Friday and fit in a swim, a family canoe, plenty of playtime for kids and dogs, and even a golf cart ride.  Such is the magic of Farley's-- Ivy showed up to ask if she could go on a ride and we said yes without even asking "with who?"  More Farley's magic: Ivy and Reese had tremendous fun all day on the 5th with a little girl down the point, Isla, who invited them for a sleepover while out on the raft.  Turns out, she had follow through.  The girls received the official invite from Isla's mom and spent the night at her cottage!  Ivy, traipsing down the point with her pillow... The next morning, our neighbor Barb hosted all the girls, plus two extra young boys from another cottage for breakfast.  The mom of one of the little boys came to fetch him and we heard her telling him as they walked away, "Now, you can't just go up to people and ask them for breakfast."  We noted she must be new to Farley's, because here-- you can!  I think anyone on the point would take in and feed any of these kids if they asked.  They might be surprised, but they'd do it.  We all take turns with our village of children.

A few more bottle rockets for the road.

And some more chatting in the circle...
... and off we go.  We will back, soon!!
