Summer Break in 3..2..1.. go!

In the blink of an eye, we've got a 6th grader in the house.  It seems like yesterday he started his school career at St. Paul's.
And now, he heads out from Boulevard, tall and confident and ready to take on the world.
I had the pleasure of attending the 5th grade promotion ceremony, watching all of our wonderful Boulevard 5th graders up there. Such a sweet group of kids...

Our boy really cleaned up at the award ceremony, coming home with the Presidential Scholar award, an art award, a band award, and a reading award that came with a gift card for Mac's Backs.  We'd been hoping he'd get at least one award, knowing how disappointed he'd be if not. No worries there, it turns out.
So grateful for Jack's successful years here at Boulevard.  He's matured so much and has turned into quite a confident young man-- who would've thought all those years ago when he was so scared to start Kindergarten!  I give all the credit to his wonderful teachers, especially Mrs. Robinson (so patient with our anxious little one in kindergarten), Mrs. Preston (second grade, and such a connection to how our boy "ticks"), and Mrs. Finnemore, who taught him to read in the two years she worked with him.

 Up next:  the Boulevard Blast!
Always a blast.  We had kind of sketchy weather but the rain held off, so we could be outside (the Boulevard Blast is much better outside).  Nat, in his role as PTA officer (soon to be president!) was pretty busy...so were the kids, what with Hook a Prize and bean bag toss to play.... I was pretty much an observer.  One of my few frustrations with our elementary school experience has been how difficult its been to make friends with other parents.  Especially for me, working opposite the school schedule-- I miss out on building relationships even with the few other involved "PTA parents..."  Ah well. Turns out that our elementary school experience is not really about me, now is it?

It's about these kids.  And our two have had another great year.

Here's Ivy with her class on the last day of school.  The students in her grade have continued to be... well... energetic.  But the marvelous Mrs. Cohen was equal to the task, with her boundless positive energy and easygoing nature.

Ivy, separated from close friends yet again at the beginning of the year, made new friends and kept us up to speed on every social interaction of her day. Our friendly little helper-girl.

We celebrated the official start to summer with-- of course-- a trip to the lake...

Checking out a new spot- East 55th Street Marina.

And Friday-  Euclid Beach!

Saturday brought a trip to the Pride Festival...

... and the start of pool season!  Here are our two after passing their deep water tests for the summer.

Sunday:  Larchmere parade and festival.  Mostly we hung out with our friends at their glassblowing shop.  Like you do.

 Making glass marbles.

Sunday night-- we left the kids home alone, because we can do that now, and spent a lovely bit of time at Whiskey Island....
Love this beautiful city of ours.

Next up-- packing for international travel!
