Late September

After a bit of a long mid-September, our family all tested negative for Covid on September 24th and we were cleared to participate in normal life again.

Silver lining #453 of this pandemic:  an incredibly heightened appreciation for the little, normal things in life.

Like getting in the car TOGETHER to go somewhere.  We celebrated our freedom with sunflowers at sunset...

And a little after-sunset stop at the beach.

Covid-free meant we could go to Ingenuity Fest, too!  It was a bit of a different interation this year (isn't everything?)  and while we missed some of our favorite parts of the full, warehouse-based festival (Tesla coils and giant swings, sigh...) the "Ingenuity at the Lake" event was charming and a lovely way to spend  a warm, sunny afternoon.

In all these years in Cleveland we've never spent time at Gordon park, or ventured across the pedestrian bridge at E 85th. I've driven past the abandoned school with these tubes on the lawn for years but never took the time to check them out.  Leave it to Ingenuity to get us there!  Winter thought they made great tunnels.
At the main festival, we had a lovely moment enjoying this unique picnic shelter, and the kids gourmandized several servings of Puerto Rican rice with pigeon peas.  Life is so full of unexpected surprises, I tell you.
We wandered the booths of crap and played dodgeball and ran into several friends.

And the bridge was awesome.
Sunday- a bittersweet afternoon saying farewell to our church youth leader, Kathy.  She's moving on to a job that gives her more free time for grandkids and more time with her daughter, so we are happy for her.  But sad for us.  She's been such a gift to my children.

We also got to check out the renovations to the sanctuary.  The new chairs look better than I expected, and the new chancel/stage will be lovely.
Also had a dog party in the sanctuary.  More unexpected joy.
We went apple picking at Patterson's with some folks from church after.  Winter had her first wagon ride!

Afterwards a new friend from church invited us all to check out his place in Kirtland- complete with goats, chickens, and amazing gardens.
He let us pick bouquets of dahlias from his cutting garden.  I have never spent much time thinking about dahlias but they are now my new favorite thing.  They make me think of something from Dr. Seuss, brought to life...
