We made it to summer!

And just like that, the 2020-2021 school year is in the books. Last day with students was June 3rd.  And at 10:30am on June 4th we were on the road to Farley's.

We made it.  Through remote instruction and hybrid instruction and concurrent instruction and asynchronus instruction.  Through masks and social distance and doomscrolling and constant, low grade anxiety.  Through all the Zooming and Google Meeting and missing assignments and electronic assignments and head sets and second monitors and desk shields. And somehow, impossibly, in retrospect- it wasn't a bad year.  My sweet students were an absolute joy and inspired me every day with their resilience.  And even with the (sometimes steep) learning curve of a brand new grade level and curriculum and building to figure out, and even with the ever-changing Covid rules and instructional models, this new job was still a piece of cake compared to my old gig.  I got lucky.  Even packing up my room was a breeze!  Silver lining to having a tiny work space.

But--I am still ready for a break!

We made it to summer, and the lake is calling, and we must go.

The lake welcomed us with open arms and warm, breezy sunshine.  We soaked it up with reading and chatting and day drinking and canoeing and biking and sharing meals with family.

If you leave inflatable paddleboards alone at the lake, they will apparently multiply.  Lulu spoiled the crew with a third board to share.  They wasted no time going out.

You all need to notice the silly shirt I got for Nat. It has a porcupine that says "Get to the point." Of course he had to wear it for the trip...

First night sunset.
Happy boy enjoing his new bike.
Family movie night...
Jack and Ivy were thrilled to see their cousins, picking up where they left off after a year apart.
I did not have my camera out in time for the adorable man-hug these two gentleman gave each other.

Ivy brought her current favorite game-- Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza-- and it was a hit with the cousins!

The vast majority of our time was spent in these chairs, with a drink and/or book in hand.

Summer, you are all right.

We got to be there for Dock Day and our team made light work of three docks.  So many tall strong young people helping this year!

These grown up kids!

This is how you help on Dock Day if you are under 12, apparently.

It was wonderfut to spend plenty of time with the triplets.  Can you believe they are 16 years old?  They are working on getting their driver's licenses and looking at colleges and they are all doing so well in school and are such fun to talk with.   They even help with dishes, without being asked.  Just amazing young people.

Winter ran and swam and wandered the Point with joy and Sunny traveled like a dream and settled right in at the cottage.

Sunday mornings are for Long Point.

And canoeing to Eagle Cove (see the eagle??)

Two nights and a day in between -- just a tiny taste of lake life, but oh so good!
