Vacationing, Part 2

After a 5 day trip with just me and the kiddos, it was time for a little R and R with this guy. The kids got a vacation with their cousins, the dog went to Gram's and we went to Yellow Springs.

While the weather was pretty awful for most of our time there (go figure, March in Ohio) we loved the destination and had a wonderful 36 hour getaway.

When you're driving right past the Columbus IKEA at lunchtime, what's there to do but stop for lunch?  And a little tiny bit of shopping...

Then, on to Yellow Springs.  Home to tiny independent bookstores, hippie art galleries, affordable clothing boutiques and streets full of perfect, pristine historic architecture!  I'm in love.

After wandering the town for a few hours in the rain we were thoroughly soaked. Luckily we got an awesome table right by the fireplace in the Olde Taverne Pub, where we ate way too much German food...

...before coffee in a great little independent coffee shop that seemed to be trapped in the 1990's.  Back to college we went, complete with hacky-sacking and pseudo-philosophical discussions with between tie-dye wearing patrons and the outspoken aging hipping ship owner....

We also got this amazing book from a free box outside a book store, and took turns reading it aloud to each other everywhere we went.  Including the Yellow Springs Brewery, where we loved both the slogan ("crafting truth to power") and the Springer IPA.

Had a relaxing night at our fancy AirBnB suite, complete with hot tubbing in the freezing rain... (see what I mean about the weather.

Started day two with brunch at the Emporium...
...then a hike in through John Bryan State Park.   Wedding Cake Falls were our favorite.  It was super cold but with the sun and some brisk walking it was actually lovely to be out, enjoying the morning in this pretty place.  Would like to come back sometime when there are leaves on all those trees!

On our way home we stopped off in Springfield to visit Wright's Westcott house.  I do love some Prairie Style architecture...

A lovely weekend away and a great way to end my spring break...
